Detox diaries

I’m Abhi Ailuri, and to stay distracted from social media platforms I practice my technical soccer ability and play my violin. My soccer practice began when I was watching TV and saw a soccer ball in front of me. I instantly started juggling it and setting new personal records. Another way I distract myself from social media is by practicing my violin. This change helped me increase my consistent practice time which led to me achieving a spot in the second-highest orchestra of my school’s symphony. The idea of distracting myself from social media started after reading real experiences from the Digital Detoxopedia. I hope this blog helps more people like me.

I spent my hostel days in a disciplined routine limited phone use, active sports, group study, and shared TV sessions which kept me focused and connected. At home, boredom led me into endless scrolling until I realized the stark contrast: it’s high time we recognize how unrestrained screen use harms us mentally and physically. I now keep my phone at a distance and plan activities whenever the urge arises, reclaiming clarity and productivity. I support digital detox and believe everyone should adopt healthier screen habits for the sake of our well-being.

I came across DigitalDetoxopedia while looking for ways to cut down on screen time. The website acted as a gentle nudge — a signpost pointing me towards healthier habits.

I’ve felt inspired to take small but meaningful steps: creating no-phone zones at home, scheduling regular tech-free time, and becoming more intentional about how I use my devices.

I look forward to seeing digitaldetoxopedia.com grow into a valuable resource for anyone seeking balance in a tech-heavy world.

To overcome my addiction to screens, I combined my passion for robotics and soccer, two areas I’m committed to. It all started in 2022 when I first didn’t know anything about soccer and Python; then my friends and I practiced soccer for hours in the summer. In 2023, my friend Abhi and I joined the Enthuziastic Python class to start learning Python. In 2023, I used to spent hours practicing Python. Although I fell behind in 2024, I got back on track in 2025 and started my Python practice. Another way I distracted myself was robotics. After my Python classes were over, I looked forward to robotics. I knew that I wanted to build cars, smart houses, and more. I’ve shared my robotics projects on Facebook Live with Enthuziastic, demonstrating the different unique features of each project. A further way I’ve distracted myself from screens was my flute. During school, I practiced my flute for 2 hours a week. I work hard and stay dedicated to my extracurriculars: soccer, flute, and robotics. My resilience with Python, along with the hours I’ve put into robotics, soccer training, and instrument practice, reflects how hobbies can build self-reliance and sharpen focus. With this blog, I hope people will get inspired and decrease their time with screens.

I used to scroll for hours just to fall asleep but it never really helped. One night, I ditched the screen and went for a short run instead. I came back tired, stretched a bit, and fell asleep instantly. Since then, whenever I feel the urge to scroll, I move a jog, some push-ups, anything. It tires me out in the best way and clears my mind. It’s simple, but it’s changed everything for me.
